Taiho Jutsu is a martial art with its roots in Japan. At its heart the aim is to restrain and detain an aggressive force, it utilises a mixture of more common and well known martial arts such as Judo, Aikido, Karate and Jiu-Jitsu.
Taiho Jutsu was brought to the United Kingdom in the early 1990’s for use by the British Police Forces and was widely promoted firstly by Sensei Brian Eustace.
In 1993 Taiho Jutsu was introduced to the Hampshire Constabulary and the first club was formed by Sensei John Ord at Netley Police Training Centre. This followed with a club opening at Havant Police station by Sensei David Brown. This club was later moved to Cosham Community Centre and evolved into Hampshire Taiho Jutsu. More clubs opened soon after across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Hampshire Taiho Jutsu has endeavoured to keep close to the original form that was created and introduced to the police. Our emphasis is that in addition to the fact a student is learning this Martial Art, they are also enjoying themselves and gaining self confidence. We teach anyone from age 8 and up regardless of ability level.
Hampshire Taiho Jutsu is passionate about martial arts and endeavours to keep the costs of all clubs down to a minimum to keep them affordable for all. There's no monthly membership fee like at some other clubs, you just pay on a lesson by lesson basis (the prices can be found on our Club page here).
Gradings are an additional fee which is £8 for Juniors and £10 for Seniors but grading is not a requirement.
The only other regular cost is for the licence which is required for insurance purposes. A licence is required for all students, to grade or attend any events your licence MUST be presented. It is renewed every year and costs £10 for Juniors and £15 for Seniors (16+).
